If you are to ask any bald person if it was their style of choice, the majority will probably answer no. The smaller group of people might have decided to go bald as a fashion statement and others because of an unfortunate medical reason. The majority group though, will tell you that they got to a certain age and hair just started disappearing. This hair loss, however, does not just happen overnight, and most of the people begin using shampoos or lotions hoping to prevent this situation from getting worse. This miniaturization process happens gradually in two major ways; receding and maturing.

A receding hairline is one that starts pulling upwards from your face equally. A Maturing hairline, on the other hand, is when hair starts thinning out from specific spots faster than others. And the most common spots are both sides of the temple and at the top of the head. In most cases, both types are hereditary and will begin picking up when the person hits the ages of around 17 to 28, although some occur later in life. Both of these hair losses affect both genders, but it is more prominent in men.

Being bald is not all bad, but some people loathe the very thought of losing hair. To curb this, most people opt for temporary solutions as using shampoos, taking medications, wearing wigs and hair extensions to hide the bald spots. This helps for a while, but there are other permanent hair transplant solutions that will prevail for a lifetime. Below are some of the popular hair transplant techniques available:

Direct Hair Implant – DHI

This treatment is the most advanced technique when compared to the other types. The hair follicles are removed from the selected donor area one by one and later implanted on the bald areas. During the extraction, the DHI-certified doctor will use very fine manual extractor tool with a diameter of 1mm or even less for less invasion, natural results, and faster healing periods. The harvested hair is then implanted directly on to the desired areas using a specifically designed tool that helps the doctor control the depth, direction and angle of every graft that is being implanted. The procedure is either a 1 day or a 2 day procedure, depending on how big the affected area is. In any case, the procedure begins in the early morning and ends on the evening. Even though a 3 day rest is suggested, some patients choose to go back to work the day after.

Follicular Unit Extraction- FUE

This is yet another permanent solution to the receding and maturing hairline problem. For this procedure, the surgeon’s team shaves the back of your scalp and remove the hair follicles one by one. The difference between FUE and DHI lies in the implantation part of the procedure. In FUE, slits or holes are created and then the hair is inserted in them using tweezers. In most cases, hair in FUE patients is not as densely packed as it is with DHI. The healing process in the implanted area takes about 2 to 5 days.

Follicular Unit Transplantation- FUT

For this procedure, the surgeon removes a 6 to 10-inch strip from the back of the patients head. He then sets the strip aside and sews the scalp closed. FUT procedure leaves a scar in the back of the head. For the implant, just as FUE, in FUT transplants incision holes are made and then the hair is inserted into them.
